Hydrotherapy

HydrotherapyHydrotherapy is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment. Heat, buoyancy and water combine to treat painful conditions and different ailments. Hydrotherapy is used by physiotherapists to facilitate the restoration of normal movement and function to the body.

Hydrotherapy’s therapeutic benefits are endless.

It stimulates the body to release endorphins and thus acts like a natural stress-reliever. Increased blood circulation allows the muscles and the skin to relax. Hydrotherapy increases blood flow to any damaged areas and thus starts the rehabilitative process. It is a favourite amongst athletes and sports enthusiasts.

Hydrotherapy involves the combined application of physics, physiology and exercise. Evidences of hydrotherapy can be seen in ancient Rome, China and Japan. Ancient Greeks are known to have taken therapeutic baths while the Chinese and Native Americans consider water to be a critical element in treatment.

Movement For Life Physiotherapy conducts daily hydrotherapy sessions. At our Coconut Grove clinic we have a purpose built indoor hydrotherapy facility. The temperature of this pool is maintained at between 32oC and 35oC, the optimal therapeutic range for rehabilitative exercise in a pool.

In Moulden, we use the outdoor pool at the Palmerston Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre. Being an outdoor pool, the water temperature here fluctuates throughout the year. Dependent on the client and condition being treated we can effectively use this facility for water based exercise. Otherwise we arrange for treatment to occur at a different facility.

Movement For Life Physiotherapy also conducts Mum's & Bub's Hydrotherapy sessions. For more information on these special services please click on the link below.
